city of INDUSTRY >> A car meet planned for Tuesday night at the Burbank Empire Center's Krispy Kreme store suddenly moved to the Puente Hills Mall, attracting more than 700 cars and resulting in three arrests and 48 citations, authorities said.

As many as 1,500 people descended on the Industry donut store, 1548 S. Azusa Ave., Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Bob Boese said, adding deputies responded to the gathering en masse once they saw it materializing. "We had numerous deputies monitoring it."

Three people were arrested -- two for outstanding warrants and one for illegal knife possession, Boese said.

Of the 48 citations, Boese said, "They were mainly equipment violations, but we did write moving violations as well."

No serious incidents were reported during the gathering, which Boese said dissipated by 10:30 p.m.

The car enthusiasts' meet-up, organized on Facebook via the "Krispy Kreme Tuesdays" community, was initially planned for the Burbank location, then moved to Industry after the Burbank store announced plans to close early and police monitored entrances and exits to the Burbank Empire Center parking lots.

In anticipation of the planned "flash mob" car meet, Burbank police had issued a statement on June 5.
